Vatican turns down Catholic rites for Robin, Mariel

Robin Padilla and Mariel Rodriguez failed to secure approval from the Vatican for a Catholic wedding. This was after the couple went to the seat of Catholicism to seek its approval after local Church officials turned them down. Their journey to Vatican City was part of a European trip, which coincided with ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Fiesta Caravan in the region with Diether Ocampo, Bea Alonzo and Zanjoe Marudo. “Okay na okay. Maraming lugar. Una sa Paris muna kasi kailangan kami doon para sa ating mga kababayan. Tapos nagpunta kami sa Rome, yun ang pinaka-importante siyempre kasi Catholic si Mariel,” Robin told ABS-CBN’s “Showbiz News Ngayon.” Robin revealed Church officials in the Holy See even asked them for more requirements, which they fulfilled in their two days’ stay there. “Marami pang hinihingi sa amin yung simbahan. Dalawang araw kami nandoon eh. Inasikaso namin ng dalawang araw,” Robin said. Despite this, their request was still not approved. “Hindi pa kami napagbigyan sa ngayon. Siguro pagbalik. Ako hindi ako susuko. Sana si Mariel huwag din siyang sumuko,” Robin said. Mariel changes mind For her part, Mariel seemed to have changed her mind. “Nagbago yung gusto ko eh. So hindi ko na hinahangad na magkaroon ng church wedding. Ngayon ko lang to sinabi. Hindi ko na iyon hinahangad ngayon,” Mariel said in a separate interview with “SNN.” She added that they might also have their Catholic wedding in the future. “Siguro darating tayo dyan, for now, yun na lang muna,” Mariel said. Despite this, their love and bond for each other grow stronger, she said. Their Europe trip also gave them more time for each other. “When I fell in love with Robin, I was really his world. Sa akin umikot ang mundo niya. Then, siyempre medyo naging busy ako, naging busy siya. So dito sa trip na ‘to naramdaman ko na ako ulit ang buhay niya,” Mariel shared. It’s been almost a year since their Muslim wedding and Mariel still feels like a newlywed. “Sabi ko sa kanya thank you for making me fall in love with you all over again. That is what marriage is. It’s to fall in love over and over again with the same person,” Mariel added. Mariel was also asked if she got to see other ABS-CBN stars, including her former boyfriend Zanjoe. “Actually si Robin had a show there. Unfortunately, hindi ako nakanood ng show nila. I never saw any of them. It was just really the trip. Our trip is different from theirs,” Mariel said.
