source: abs-cbnnews.com The 8th installment of the Pinoy Pride series will see 3 boxers from the ALA Gym in Cebu go toe-to-toe with dangerous Mexican opponents. Pinoy Pride VIII, dubbed “Philippines vs Mexico,” will be held on September 10 in Cebu. Undefeated boxer Milan “Metodico” Melindo (24 wins, with 8 knockouts) will aim to win the vacant WBO Intercontinental flyweight title versus Francisco “Chiquota” Rosas (22-8-2) of Mexico. According to PhilBoxing.com, ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer wants to give Melindo more experience before setting him up for a world title shot. “The only way to assess the true potential of a fighter is to give him tough opponents,” Aldeguer said. Melindo will be going against an experienced fighter in Rosas. Rosas is a former WBC Fecarbox champion and has faced fighters like Edgar Sosa and Roman Gonzales. Melindo said that he has already watched a few of his opponent’s bouts. “We cannot take Mexican boxers for granted. They have excellent technique and are great body punchers,” Melindo said. In the other bouts, Jason “El Nino” Pagara (27-1) will face Rosbel “Lobito” Montoya (12-2-1). Bacolod City native Genesis Servania (14-0), meanwhile, will fight Gerson “El Nene” Guerrero (34-8).
