If eight-division king, Manny Pacquiao, decides to go with a third bout against WBO and WBC lightweight titlist, Juan Manuel Marquez, their clash would take place at a catch-weight of 145 pounds, Pacquiao’s adviser, Michael Koncz, told BoxingScene.com. The two pugs have faced each other twice in the super featherweight category. Following the first match in 2004 that ended in a draw, Pacquiao defeated Marquez in 2008 to steal the Mexican’s World Boxing Council super featherweight crown. “It’s 145, and not 143. We’ve had general discussions with [Top Rank Promotions CEO] Bob Arum, but we haven’t sat down, Manny and I, to make a decision.” said Koncz to BoxingScene.com. “In the next few days, Bob Arum will present us with the options and we’ll evaluate the options and explain them to him and he’ll make a decision then.”
An offer for Marquez from Top Rank Promotions has been forwarded to the fighter as well as to Golden Boy Promotions, which has 30 days to match or surpass it or else Marquez can leave Golden Boy for Top Rank and the Pacquiao bout on either Nov. 5 or Nov. 12 in Las Vegas if he so chooses. “We haven’t sat down to talk about it, Manny and I, so nothing is new. I don’t think that there is a rush to do it,” said Koncz. “Let Manny get some rest and spend some time with his family after spending a long, hard weeks in training camp. We don’t have to come up with a decision this week.”
