At first, he kept the clock inside his school bag in English class, but the teacher complained when the alarm beeped in the middle of a lesson so Ahmed brought his invention up to show her. She told that it was like a bomb and Ahmed told that it is a normal homemade clock.

Later that day, he was taken out of his class by the principal and questioned by five police officers before being taken to a juvenile detention centre where he had his fingerprints taken. Mohamed, from the ninth grade, was suspended from school and police officers accused him of making a “movie bomb” before he was led away. After a while, the case were considered closed by a police after a full checking of the said item.

In a matter of hours, the clock made Ahmed a star on social media, with the #IStandWithAhmed tweeted more than 1 million times.  And among those messaging their support on social media were President Barack Obama, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
