Dragon is said to be a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, that features in the myths of many cultures. It involves two distinct cultural traditions of dragons: the European dragon, derived from European folk traditions and ultimately related to Greek and Middle Eastern mythologies, and the Chinese dragon, with counterparts in Japan (namely the Japanese dragon), Korea and other East Asian countries.
Well, let’s talk about those that in Chinese dragon. It is said that the mythological dragon is a very significant part of Chinese values and principles. Many Chinese people believe that the dragon brings luck and prosperity. And upon seeing the photos posted on Reddit by user ‘docius’, Chinese netizens now immediately reposted the said picture on Chinese social media site Weibo. The picture was apparently taken during a flight from Amsterdam to Marrakech.
The pictures featured a river named Odeleite, also known as “The Blue Dragon River” because of its dark blue color and curvy shape is in the municipality of Castro Marim in Algarve, Portugal. Chinese netizens believe the Blue Dragon River will bring prosperity and luck to Portugal and its people.
According to Chinese legends, the Chinese dragon is able to breathe fire, summon wind and call for rain, fly into the clouds and hide at the bottom of the sea; it’s also capable of becoming as large as the sky or disguising itself by being as tiny as a pinhead. From celebrations to the Zodiac, to historical rulers, the dragon has played a large part in China’s rich history.
In Chinese lore, the dragon is a benevolent creature with powers to bring rain, floods, and even hurricanes to a land. Along with this ability, the dragon signified power, strength, and good luck. It is in fact an amazing sight!
