Jessica Sanchez gets her first taste of criticisms from American Idol judges

Jessica Sanchez chose “Turn The Beat Around” which was first popularized by Vicki Sue Robinson in 1976, sung again by Laura Branigan in 1990, and got Latina singer Gloria Estefan her first Billboard Hot Dance Club Play number one English hit song in 1994. (uploaded in YouTube by IdolxMuzic) Coaching Jessica Sanchez for her performance were resident mentor Jimmy Iovine and Black Eyed Peas‘s will.i.am. During the mentoring session, will.i.am was so impressed with Jessica that she dubbed her “Swaggernaut.” “That’s like out-of-space swag, child!” the Black Eyed Peas leader said when Jessica asked him what “swaggernaut” means. But judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson were not as impressed as will.i.am. Steven was first to tell what Jessica should not have done. “I love your voice… But you can’t stray too much from what I think you sing the best which is ballads [sic]… “And the rhythm that you sang with the song was just a little… shady,” added the Aerosmith lead singer. But the rocker reiterated he loves Jessica’s voice and also praised Jessica’s sequened, discoball-inspired pants. After saying she also loves Jessica’s pants, Jennifer told the 16-year-old A.I. hopeful that she should not do too much vibrato in songs like the one she just performed. “Your voice has such a strong vibrato which is beautiful in certain songs. But in a song like this, where you have to really be syncopated and on that beat, it lagged a little bit behind, so, it lost a little bit of the energy. “So for me, not my favorite thing I’ve ever seen you do, but good job,” Jennifer continued. Randy totally agreed with his co-judges. “You’re one of the greatest in this competition, so, I feel that we should really stir you always on the right direction. Give you great constructive criticisms.” The musician turned record producer, turned American Idol judge pointed out to Jessica what she should have done afterwards. “This is about us giving you constructive criticisms to help you get even better, we think. ‘Cause you’re there. I mean you always sound good, but I’m saying there are some things you can work on, you know what I mean?” added Randy. Jessica was asked by host Ryan Seacrest to compare what she felt on her performance last week to what she is feeling that moment. The American teen with Filipino and Mexican blood said she had to work really hard to make her voice fit the song. “If I stay next time, I’ll pick a better song,” promised Jessica to the judges. – PEP.ph http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/251616/showbiz/jessica-sanchez-gets-her-first-taste-of-criticisms-from-a-i-judges
