Georgina Wilson was top of mind for most Internet-using Filipinos

MANILA, Philippines – Model and VJ Georgina Wilson was top of mind for most Internet-using Filipinos early this month, at least according to Yahoo!, a search engine giant. Wilson was the top trending search in the country from November 7 to 13, data from Yahoo! Philippines showed. Madhavi Tumkur, corporate communications manager of Yahoo! Southeast Asia, said searches for Wilson spiked after she announced on November 9 that she will appear on this season of hit fashion reality show “America’s Next Top Model.” She was a guest model and stylist on the show, representing local clothing company Bench. The episode was aired in the Philippines last November 14. A day after Wilson’s announcement, the model and VJ became one of the top trending local topics on microblogging site Twitter. Landing in second place is the Puerto Princesa Underground River, which is now included in the provisional list of the world’s new seven wonders of nature. “Days after the announcement of the provisional winners, controversies involving the Zurich-based New7Wonders Foundation surfaced. Reports said Maldives and Indonesia withdrew from the contest because the organizers were allegedly collecting millions of dollars in surprise fees. The organizers denied this report,” Tumkur said. Other top Yahoo! searches in the Philippines from November 7 to 13 include Anne Curtis, who said she was not allowed by a GMA staff to go onstage during the USTv Students’ Choice Awards kick-off; 11.11.11 or November 11, 2011; and the trilogy bout between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. “Social networking sites were abuzz with differing opinions; some doubting the results (of the Pacquiao-Marquez fight) and others upholding it,” Tumkur said.
