Synopsis: At 4:00 a.m. today, Tropical Depression “GORIO” was estimated based on all available data at 500 km East of Surigao City (9.5°N, 130.4°E) with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph. It is forecast to move Northwest at 7 kph. Forecast: Eastern and Central Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Eastern Visayas and Mindanao with moderate to rough seas. Light to moderate winds coming from the east to southwest will prevail over Central and Northern Luzon and from the northeast to northwest over the rest of the country and the coastal waters along these areas will be slight to moderate. Estimated rainfall amount is from 5 – 15 mm per hour (moderate – heavy) within the 500 km diameter of the Tropical Depression. Tropical Depression “GORIO” will enhance the Southwest Monsoon which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Visayas and Mindanao. Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under signal # 1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today.
