AJ “Bazooka” Banal will be defending his status as WBO’s No.1 bantamweight contender when he faces Mexican brawler Raul Hidalgo this weekend. The fight at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel on Saturday will be the main event of Pinoy Pride XIII–Road to Glory. “I can’t promise any knockout. But if I’ll have the chance, then I’ll go for it. One thing I can assure you is that I have a good preparation for this fight,” Banal said in Sun Star. Banal has a record of 26-1 with 19 knockouts. Hidalgo, on the other hand, is 16-5 with 12 KOs. “I have prepared for six weeks. Right now, I am tired because of many delayed flights going here,” said Hidalgo. “But on Saturday night, I will be ready and I could knock out Banal.” ALA Promotions’ Michael Aldeguer said it will be an important fight for Banal as it sets him up for a possible world title shot. “Hidalgo could give him a good fight and good preparation for the world title fight. Right now, we are just waiting for Jorge Arce, who has challenged Nonito Donaire Jr. to vacate the title. But we are ready to fight Arce anytime, if given the chance,” Aldeguer said. The Pinoy Pride card will be aired by ABS-CBN on Sunday starting at 10:15 a.m.
