After being caught stealing from a store’s coffee vending machine, 2 children aged 9 and 10 years old were tied to a post in Bocaue, Bulacan. The store owner explained the incident and said that it was a form of punishment for what the two boys have been doing. The children have been stealing numerous times already, added the witness and that was the only time the children had been punished. Later then, the two had been brought to the barangay office to settle the case. According to Barangay Captain Raul Sanchez, he already warned the store owner for any possible charges that he might be facing due to the punishment that he gave to the children. The barangay officials have been trying to contact the children’s parents as well, but they failed and nobody came for them except for a man who claimed to be one of the boys’ grandfather. And for the person who tied them to a pole, Executive Director of Juvenile and Welfare Council stated that there are specific proceedings that deal with children and adults who steal and doing something like that is not justifiable. The store owner must be responsible for the act that violated Republic Act 9344.
